Over 160 attendees turned out for the Chamber May luncheon at the NRH Centre! The Chamber was proud to present eleven $1000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. The selection process was very difficult, as The Chamber received 57 excellent applications from students from Birdville ISD, Keller ISD, Bethesda Christian School, and Fort Worth Christian School. The scholarship committee is a subcommittee of the Business Education Success Team. The committee chair was Dr. Linda Anderson and members were Keith Chadwick, David Nelson, Heather Oxley, Lisa Self, and Allison Vinson. The selection process includes reading and ranking the applications, then conducting personal interviews with the finalists. Priscilla Hamilton and Garrett Grim adressed all in attendance! For the past three years, the Chamber has presented one scholarship in honor of our late President and CEO, Bob Hamilton. This year, we were pleased to have the recipient of the first Bob Hamilton Memorial Scholarship, Garrett Grim, join us and assist Priscilla Hamilton in presenting this year's memorial scholarship to Faith Tweed, of Keller High School. The Chamber was also honored to have U.S. Congressman Dr. Michael Burgess as keynote speaker at the luncheon. He, along with Chamber Board Chair, Cathy Jenkins, Chamber President and CEO, Jack Bradshaw, and Dr. Linda Anderson, presented the scholarship recipients with certificates and gifts. As a special treat, the Texas Rangers gave two tickets to each student. Texas Representative Stephanie Klick was also present to congratulate the scholarship recipients. In addition to Faith Tweed, the other scholarship recipients were: Carter Barke of Richland High School, Lawson Belcher of Keller High School, Rebecca Cooper of Richland High School, Jenny Phillips of Timber Creek High School, Abigail Sena of Haltom High School, Morgan Swain of Bethesda Christian School, and Dayton Murphy of Keller High School. Glenn Smith, former Chamber Chairman with Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson, LLC presented three of the Chamber Scholarship funded by the law firm. Each year, the Chamber also selects one scholarship recipient from each of the three Birdville ISD high schools funded by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLC. Glenn Smith was there to present these scholarships to Marissa Clark of Haltom High School, Cole Hagar of Richland High School, and Hannah Larson of Birdville High School. The Chamber is very appreciative of all those who contributed to make these scholarships possible. The majority of the funds are raised at membership luncheons through the purchase of raffle tickets. Other sponsors include Coors Distributing Company, Frost Bank, ONCOR, Pinnacle Bank, Texas Healty Resources HEB, Lisa Self, and the Chamber Board of Directors. Bethesda Christian School was voted as the May Member of the Month for their many contributions to the Chamber (pictured below)! The May diplomat of the month was Shirley Hand of Meadowcrest Self Storage (pictured below left)! See all the May Luncheon photos HERE.
